How to Make Sandhill Crane Legs
Step 1
Cut 8 pieces of 28 gauge wire into 12" lengths.
Step 2
Bend each wire almost in half, allowing one side to be 1" longer than the other.
Step 3
Set two of the bent wires aside. Using the remaining six, tightly pinch the bend in wire between your forefingers, while wrapping the longer side of wire around the shorter side of wire for 1/2".
Step 4
Set aside in groups of three.
Step 5
Using the remaining two bent wires, tightly pinch the bend in the wire between your forefingers, while wrapping the longer side of the wire around the shorter side of the wire three times. Set aside.
Step 6
Cut two 17" lengths of wire.
Step 7
Hold three of the 'toes' together lining them up. Pinch the toes and the 17" wire 1" from the end between your forefingers. Wrap the 17" wire around three times.
Step 8
Add the short toe to your bundle and begin wrapping tightly all the wires together up to the 'knee'.
Step 9
Wrap around several extra times in one place to form the 'knee'.
Step 10
Continue wrapping the wire up the upper leg.
Step 11
Cut off the extra wire by the toes.
Step 12
Using the Sandhill Crane diagram as a guide, splay out the toes, bend at the 'knee' and trim to length at the top.
You may find it helpful to put a small piece of masking tape at the top of the leg before you insert it in place on the stuffed Sandhill Crane.
